Math and Art are coming together in this great sculpture project. Cardboard sculpting has begun!
Sixth graders had a great time working on portraits inspired by Pablo Picasso's Cubism. We studied art history, experimented with shape and form, and worked with oil pastels to finish the study. This is a quick shot of the Cubism display in the WMS hallway outside of the art lab.
A big thank you to our Woodland Middle School custodial staff! They hung the completed sculpture this morning, isn't it fabulous? It hangs proudly above the demo table in the art room. Feel free to stop by to see our finished work!
All students enjoyed studying the artist Dale Chihuly this week. You can learn more about this artist and his artwork at www.chihuly.com. Many of his stunning glass sculptures were on display at The Atlanta Botanical garden in 2004, which lead to an all time high in garden membership and brought visitors and accolades from around the world. The Nepenthes Chandelier, donated by David J. Tufts, hangs in the Hardin Visitor Center as part of the permanent collection. We created our own sculpture, inspired by this and similar Chihuly sculptures, to display in the Woodland Middle School art room. I look forward to posting photos of the finished piece next week! |
