Sixth grade students are having a ball as they make their first attempt on the pottery wheels! Next year, the wheel will be one of their options for choice projects. For now, they are just giving it a try and experimenting with how things work and feel.

Students are practicing their construction and engineering skills with paper sculpture! We learned about what is needed for structural reasons, and how to create the base of their sculpture. Students then used colored paper to sculpt the main parts of their design. Finally, we used folded forms to complete additional 3D details. We have been hard at work, creating color maps. I don't purchase green, violet, orange, or brown paint. Students learn to mix colors of their own, so that they get exactly what they need rather than using more generic and unrealistic premade colors. All three grade levels have made color maps. They will use these measurement pages to inform their color choices for painting projects throughout the school year.
