We soaked our chia seeds and applied them to the sculptures late last week. With the unexpected absence of Monday and Tuesday of this week, I was concerned that our sculptures may dry out, which would have killed our freshly sprouted seeds. I was thrilled to come in this morning to find that they weathered Irma just fine! Enjoy the photos below. We will trim them and make sure we don't have any unintended volunteers during class today. They will be headed home late this week, once they are a bit more sturdy.
All classes reviewed clay rules and procedures during the first few days of school. All sculptures have been fired and are soaking. Chia seeds soaked overnight. Chia pets will be sprouting all over the art room before we know it! This was a fun way to start off our year, and let them work with their hands on days that are usually filled with paperwork and syllabus overviews.
Can you believe that summer break is almost over? I'm missing you guys, so I'm happy to head back soon and start planning awesomeness for the coming year! Open house is July 31st from 5-7pm.
Join us from 6-7pm on March 14th, to celebrate the Woodland Middle School at Euharlee Art, Band, and Chorus students!
Each grade level has it's own section of this website.
Click on the grade level above to take a peek into our art room to see our latest creations! All 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are spending a bit of time in review this week. We are making a 3D design that showcases the Elements of Art, which are like the "tools in our toolbox" in the art room.
The Elements of Art Line, Space, Color, Texture, Value, Form, and Shape. Students filled a design with different types of line. They could use any kind of line to create any sort of pattern that they found pleasing to the eye. Next, we reviewed color mixing and the color wheel. You can see a few examples of our work in the action shots below. |
