Our 7th graders have been hard at work on a two part studio project. First, they studied Impressionism with a focus on the work of Seurat and Van Gogh. We completed an oil pastel drawing of a landscape inspired by their favorite artist. Now, we are working on a modern approach and adding transparent "selfies" to the mix! Each student sent in a selfie, which was then traced and painted. We hope to display them on Monday afternoon. Stay tuned!
A big thank you to our Woodland Middle School custodial staff! They hung the completed sculpture this morning, isn't it fabulous? It hangs proudly above the demo table in the art room. Feel free to stop by to see our finished work!
All students enjoyed studying the artist Dale Chihuly this week. You can learn more about this artist and his artwork at www.chihuly.com. Many of his stunning glass sculptures were on display at The Atlanta Botanical garden in 2004, which lead to an all time high in garden membership and brought visitors and accolades from around the world. The Nepenthes Chandelier, donated by David J. Tufts, hangs in the Hardin Visitor Center as part of the permanent collection. We created our own sculpture, inspired by this and similar Chihuly sculptures, to display in the Woodland Middle School art room. I look forward to posting photos of the finished piece next week! |
