Keep an eye out for gorgeous projects coming home! Great job 8th grade!
A gesture drawing is work of art defined by rapid execution. Typical situations involve an artist drawing a series of poses taken by a model in a short amount of time, often as little as 30 seconds, or as long as 2 minutes. Gesture drawing is often performed as a warm-up for a life drawing session. (Wikipedia)
Students are studying the work of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein during the Pop Art movement. Studio time is being used to create art that shows a modern take on Pop Art in the style of "Andy or Roy". We hope to display finished work on Monday.
All students enjoyed studying the artist Dale Chihuly this week. You can learn more about this artist and his artwork at www.chihuly.com. Many of his stunning glass sculptures were on display at The Atlanta Botanical garden in 2004, which lead to an all time high in garden membership and brought visitors and accolades from around the world. The Nepenthes Chandelier, donated by David J. Tufts, hangs in the Hardin Visitor Center as part of the permanent collection. We created our own sculpture, inspired by this and similar Chihuly sculptures, to display in the Woodland Middle School art room. I look forward to posting photos of the finished piece next week! |
